The festival showcases rich heritage and delights. It takes place on September 2, 2023 at Pennsylvania Ave, between 3rd and 4th Street, near Capitol Hill.
This festival is organized by The Greater Washington Chinese American Community, Coordination Council of Chinese American Associations, Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater Washington, Union of Chinese American Professional Organizations, Hope Chinese School, American Chinese School, and the Howard County Chinese School. This free and public cultural event promises a vibrant celebration of Chinese arts, experiences, tourism, and cuisine.
The festival's centerpiece will be its diverse array of artistic performances, featuring local art troupes and professional artists showcasing a variety of dance, vocal performances, musical instrument recitals, martial arts displays, acrobatics, and more. Additionally, participating groups from other parts of the United States and China will contribute to the spectacle. The cultural festival will culminate in a grand procession showcasing traditional Chinese art forms, including dragon and lion dances, resounding gongs and drums, waist drum performances, and Yangge folk dances.
Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in cultural displays and interactive experiences, such as calligraphy demonstrations, Chinese painting showcases, receiving Chinese names, paper-cutting, traditional Chinese medicine consultations, Chinese book exhibitions, bamboo dance, and instrument experiences (including the erhu, jinghu, yangqin, pipa, suona, and dizi). The festival will also feature theatrical performances, tea ceremonies, presentations on Chinese tea culture, opportunities to try on ethnic costumes for photos, Kung Fu and Tai Chi demonstrations, clay figurine sculpting, sugar painting, hand-painted fans, paper-cutting, traditional facial makeup painting, children's face painting, Chinese embroidery displays, and much more.
Highlighting the richness and diversity of China's tourism resources, the festival will present breathtaking landscapes and cultural customs from various regions, as well as the splendid historical relics and modern architecture of the Chinese nation.
